________________

It was a hot summer’s day in Cerulean City when Ash Ketchum had come back to the coastal town. It felt strange coming here, not for a badge or challenge of any kind, but instead to meet someone.

He looked to the beach house, alone on its own small stretch of land. He could only imagine this was the right place so he headed up to the door. It was a pretty fancy place, not that Ash had any sort of basis to compare beach houses for, but at the very least it looked bigger and more luxurious than his home in Pallet Town.

He stood at the door, looking around before spotting the button. The doorbell chimed, and soon enough the door opened to reveal a familiar orange haired girl.

Ash had just arrived back in Pallet Town after returning from his latest journey when he had gotten a call from Misty, his past travelling companion and current gym leader of Cerulean City. “Misty! What’s up? How did you know I was coming home today?”

“Your mom told me!” She responded. The girl sounded especially happy to hear from him, although that wasn’t to say he wasn’t happy as well. “It’s really good to hear from you Ash!”

“Haha, same here! How’s the gym?”

“Oh, it’s fine... but nevermind that, actually, I called to invite you over!”

“Invite me over?” Ash repeated. He wasn’t expecting to get called out so soon, certainly. He had only got back home yesterday!

“Yeah! My sisters have a beach house, and since they’re off on their dumb tour I have it all to myself. I was wondering if you’d like to come over for a day. It’d be a great chance to catch up.”

He considered his options, humming audibly in thought. “Well, sure, that sounds fun! I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to stay at a beach house before!”

“Oh, that’s great!” Even Ash could feel Misty’s excitement over the phone. “Come by soon! Actually, I have something really neat to show you, and I already made plans for when you get here, so it’s good that you said yes!”

He rose an eyebrow. “Something to show me? What, your Pokemon?”

He could hear her giggle on the other end of the line. “It’s a surprise! You’ll just have to come over as soon as you can to see!” She said smugly. “It’ll be some great summer fun, though, I promise!”

The phone call ended soon after that.

And now, here she was. “Ash, you made it!”

“Hey, Misty!” He grinned in return. She really did look just as he remembered her. “This is a pretty fancy place. I didn’t know gyms made this much.”

“Ehh... well, it’s mostly because of all the shows my sisters put on... but, anyway, I’m glad you came! Come in!”

Ash certainly didn’t mind a chance to get out of the hot sun, and so when Misty opened the door and stepped aside for him he eagerly walked into the summer home.

He took a look around. It certainly seemed very resort-like. Somehow it looked bigger on the inside, too, but maybe that was just because of how impressive and tricked out the beach house was. It didn’t seem like the kind of place Misty would live in. Then again, this was supposed to be more her sisters’.

Speaking of Misty, when his eyes looked back to her, he noted her expression. She was staring at him with a raised eyebrow and a look of confusion and curiosity. “What is it?” the young trainer questioned, looking himself over for what Misty could possibly be searching for.

“Where’s Pikachu?” She responded. “It’s weird seeing you without him.”

“Oh, right,” Ash rubbed his shoulder. It was true, Pikachu never really left his side except for certain occasions. Even he had to admit that it was odd not having his best friend around or on hand. “He’s resting at home. Mom wanted to spend some time playing with him for once.”

“Oh... well, we can have fun on our own, then!” She smiled. “Let me show you around!”

They spent a while exploring the house, although really they spent most of that time talking to each other about unrelated things. This was a good time to catch up on stuff since it had been a while since they had the chance to. It wasn’t like before when they travelled through Kanto and Johto together every day, but it was close.

Eventually the two trainers found themselves walking down the beach behind the house. A private, clean stretch of sand with a good view of the ocean before them, away from the docks and ports of the city itself.

Misty was pretty proud of it, of course, although her sisters preferred sunbathing on the beach instead of swimming around. Regardless, this was where she had stopped Ash, halting their walk as they stood in the sand. “Ash, hang on.”

“Hmm? What is it, Misty?” He looked towards her, oblivious to her own unsureness as the girl wondered how to proceed.

She had rehearsed this. Alright, she steadied herself and started. “Remember when I called you and said I had a surprise?”

“Oh, yeah, that’s right!” he took a moment to recall. “You said you had something to show me, I think.” He looked to her for approval, and after she nodded he continued, “So it’s around here somewhere?” He began looking around for anything that seemed, well, surprise-like. No sudden welcome back parties around, at least.

She took this as her cue, reaching into her pocket and pulling out the little white and red plastic ball contained within. “Well, actually, it’s right here” she said, pressing the button that made the ball expand, filling the palm of her hand as opposed to its portable shape.

“Hah! So I was right, it was a Pokemon!” Ash crossed his arms with a smirk. “What, did Psyduck finally evolve?”

“Ugh, unfortunately, no.” Misty grumbled to herself in the momentary distraction, before shaking her head and focusing back on the matter at hand. “Actually, this is a completely new Pokemon I caught.” She let it sink in for a second before continuing. “I know, it doesn’t sound that impressive, but this one is actually really special! I wouldn’t call you all the way here if it wasn’t.”

“Did you get something really rare?” He rose an eyebrow, expecting the prideful girl to start bragging about her ‘amazing catch’ at any moment.

“Well, it’s definitely different” she admitted with a semi-helpless shrug, making Ash wonder. It was certainly helping build his curiosity.

“What’s that mean?”

“Just watch!” She said, looking down to the Pokeball. No turning back now, she supposed.

She aimed the Pokeball. “Ditto, come out!” was her words as the red beam shot out from the device, taking the form of... well, actually, a rather formless being.

“Diii.” the pink blob of a Pokemon happily chimed as it swiveled around in place to look up to the two humans.

“Hey, a Ditto!” Ash said. He recognized the Pokemon, having seen them before on his journey. Instinctively he reached to his side, feeling around his pocket before realizing that what he was looking for wasn’t there. Right, he had left his Pokedex behind with the Professor. Darn.

He recalled some bits about Ditto, at least. The most memorable aside from its pink squishy appearance was, of course, its primary ability. That of transforming into a completely different Pokemon, able to take on the full appearance, voice, everything to copy a Pokemon it had seen. It could even copy moves and attacks!

“Wow, Misty! You caught a Ditto!” The boy smiled down at the blob Pokemon that jiggled at the attention. He kneeled to look closer at it, holding a finger out towards the Pokemon. In response it touched its own extended bit of pink slime against his finger, shaking his ‘hand’. “That’s pretty impressive. Aren’t these supposed to be really rare?”

“Yeah, but I managed to catch this little guy when I was on a trip doing some gym work.” Ditto happily oozed its way through the sand over to Misty’s side, the girl petting its jelly-like surface carefully.

“Lucky.” Ash stood back up. “So that was the surprise?”

“Well, only a part of it.” Misty looked up at Ash. “This isn’t just a normal Ditto, Ash.”

“What, is it some kind of super Ditto?” He crossed his arms, incredulous.

“Well, actually... in a way, yeah, it is,” Misty admitted after thinking it over a little, Ditto seeming to accept the title as it flexed its pink goo arms.

Okay, Ash had to admit that he didn’t expect her to say that. “What makes it so special? I mean, I know Dittos are rare and all, and I haven’t seen a lot of them, but it looks pretty normal to me.”

“This Ditto is different, though, Ash! Its Transform ability is special, stronger!” Misty claimed. Finally, she had to reveal it. “It can use it to transform others.”

Ash paused. The meaning was lost on him. Transform others? “So... it can make other Pokemon copy each other?”

“No, you dolt!” Misty looked unamused. “Ditto can turn anyone into Pokemon, not just itself! As in, humans!”

“...Wha?” He understood, mostly, maybe, but he was having trouble believing it.

“Ditto can change us into Pokemon. I’ve tried it a few times. I don’t know how, but that’s what makes it special! Different!” She looked down towards the otherwise normal Ditto. “It’s transform works on anyone, and they become the Pokemon completely!”

“That’s pretty nuts, Misty!” Ash felt the need to be the skeptic on this occasion, if only to see where this would go. “Are you really sure?”

“Of course I’m sure! I told you, right?” She stared up at him, before huffing. “Oh, nevermind. I just have to prove it to you, right? So I’ll show you myself. I was going to do this anyway, so it’s not a problem.”

Ash said nothing as he rubbed his head. Misty stood up, brushing some sand off of her legs before stepping back a bit, Ditto trailing behind.

“Alright, prepare to be amazed. Just sit and watch and don’t say anything until it’s done, ok?” Misty stared towards the boy sternly, who just scratched his head and nodded.

“Alright alright.” Ash did as he was told, sitting and focusing his eyes on the girl and pink blob of a Pokemon next to her.

Misty seemed satisfied. Truthfully she was nervous. She wasn’t too sure on how Ash would react to what he was about to see, but considering who he was, she was sure she’d get a kick out of this. Hopefully. At the very least he didn’t seem like the type who’d freak out and run.

Steeling herself she looked down to Ditto. “Alright Ditto! Like we practiced, remember?” The Pokemon’s thin line of a smile widened as it jiggled, as if nodding. “Okay... use Transform, now!”

Ash watched from his seat on the sandy ground as the pink goo-y Pokemon stretched and shifted, its already not very consistent form bloating, seeming to grow, altering. He was surprised then when, unexpectedly, it pounced onto Misty. The girl herself didn’t seem nearly as shocked or confused as Ash was, aside from some mild discomfort as the slimy Pokemon clinged to the skin of her arms.

“Misty, are you okay!?”

“Shut up, Ash! I said to sit and watch!” She commanded. The boy frowned but shut his mouth as Ditto wrapped around Misty’s waist and hugged her legs, covering every bit of the girl’s form. Ash watched her shut her eyes and tuck her lips inward before Ditto wrapped around her face, and the last he saw of her before she disappeared entirely into Ditto’s body was her iconic bright orange hair.

So now, in Misty’s place, was a featureless pink blob of a humanoid in the vague shape of Misty. Well, featureless aside from Ditto’s face, the dotty smile still visible on the torso as its goo wriggled and the human inside did her best to stay still.

But then it only got weirder. Ash couldn’t help but go wide-eyed when he saw the pink Mistyblob’s neck seem to stretch, its featureless head wobbling atop the elongated neck for balance before it started to shift atop it.

Her entire face stretched outwards, as if being molded with clay.  Her nose seemed to merge with the rest of her face, giving it a sleek, smooth look as it ended in a rounded point, chin and other features gone on the new rounder head. Then a lump formed on the back of it, said lump extending and growing into a large spike-like horn.

On either side of the blob’s head began to grow more detail and features. First was what seemed like eyelids, closed shut at the moment, yet large and notable. Above the location where her eyes would be something began to push out, a long thin antenna growing above each eye. Following that a section of pink slime separated itself from the rest, above her eyes but a bit farther back than her antennae. This section began to grow, stretching slimily out and hanging down from her head, passed her long neck and shoulders and coming to rest above her chest.

Then one eye opened, and Ash could see, as opposed to all the pink surrounding it, that it was not pink itself. Instead a large, round eye with red irises and a white dot in the center of its large black pupils. That wasn’t Misty’s eye. Or at least not the one Ash recognized. For one it was larger and rounder, and for another Misty’s eyes were blue. Regardless the eye blinked and looked around, looking at Ash for a moment before both eyes opened wide and looked down at her new snout. A tiny mouth opened on the underside of her long face, circular and lipless, taking in a deep breath. Evidently she was pretty happy to be able to breath without being covered in Ditto goo. The noise that came out from that mouth then was strange. Entirely unlike Misty. Where Misty’s voice was grating and annoying, the voice of this being was more musical and sweet, yet distinctly not human.

At that time the tip of her face began changing color and composition. The pink turned into a light cream color that began spreading from the spot at her ‘nose’ upwards to the rest of her face. At the same time the skin became far less shiny and gooey as slime turned into smooth scales. This change continued across all of her face up until her antennae and eyebrows. Those remained pink even as the slimy sheen left them, although they shifted to a more reddish-pink than the natural color of a Ditto.

The cream scales on the other hand continued across her head, covering every bit of her face and her horn spike, and once done began moving down her elongated neck. To Ash’s surprise, three holes appeared along the sides of her neck, running in a row down each side. The transforming blob that was Misty looked downward at where his eyes focused on, and a hand instinctively went up to feel the holes before she stopped herself from messing with her new gills.

And then this brought her attention to her hands, the... Milotic, if Ash was right-- it was hard not having a Pokedex with him at the moment to check as he was accustomed to, watching her hands with him as her thin pink fingers receded, each already small digit growing smaller and smaller, from pinkies to thumbs just vanishing underneath the pink slime as if being pulled and tucked underneath. Ash couldn’t imagine what it felt like and frankly was astonished by what he was seeing, as soon both of Misty’s hands were left as fingerless stubs. Then the stubs themselves began to shrink, until her arms seemed to terminate at the wrists, and even then it clearly wasn’t done. They kept shrinking down until Misty couldn’t even see them without creening her long neck over itself. Passed the elbows, into the shoulder blades, and then...

Gone. No arms, no shoulders or even any evidence of their ever being shoulders. A smooth transition from neck to body with nothing in between, her sides smoothing out leaving an oddly vacant space where her arms would have been, as if her body had decided to skip her arms and go straight to underneath them. Then her chest began altering, swelling out but not in the ‘human’ way, instead going from (rather) flat to a more cylindrical shape including her back, much like her neck, although it seemed to be thicker than her ‘neck’ even as it began stretching. At the same time more of her torso joined in the change, taking on a more barrel-like body-type. Much like her neck her torso must have extended at least twice if not more its previous length yet if anything it seemed thicker and larger than before as opposed to looking ‘stretched’.

Gone was Misty’s toned swimmer belly and overall petite frame as it stretched and bloated outwards into a smooth, long, serpentine body. One that was notably large. Large enough that Misty couldn’t even stand up straight, not just because her still untransformed legs weren’t strong enough to lift all that weight, but simply because she didn’t seem to have any sort of bones to keep herself up straight. If there was any sort of center of gravity in her new form, it was lost on her, and so she had to rest and ‘lean’ over on a particularly fatter and softer part of her ‘belly’ while her neck and head were propped up, undecided on whether it wanted to watch the rest of her changes or Ash’s reactions to those changes.

Soon, however, her attention was rather forcibly drawn to her back. Something had begun happening to her legs. Perhaps one of the more extreme changes so far. First her hips and pelvis had rounded, joining the same smooth serpentine build as the rest of her body. Her legs wobbled before giving out entirely underneath her, although as opposed to falling over she had just lifted her lower half off of the ground.

Her legs dangled from the very end of her long, increasingly creamy and scaley body, and both watched as the two delicate and admittedly rather scrawny limbs fattened, rounding and losing definition, while at the same time going through a similar stretching process as the rest of her body. Something else happened at this point, however, as they watched the pink, slimy legs begin to stick together. As if trapped together with bubble gum, the pink goop on either leg clung to each other, pulling both legs to each other.

Then the crease began to disappear between them, starting from where her pelvis was and travelling downward, leaving smooth round flesh-to-be down to her knees, where the bones seemed to melt. At this point what was once her legs had grown to an additional length, practically as long as the rest of her body. Rather than bulking up as most of her torso did, the lower half of her legs thinned out, a smooth shrinking in circumference up until her feet, which themselves began transforming.

Toes vanishing until both feet were a solid, smooth lump each that quickly lost definition and bone structure, almost flattening as the merged ankles shrank into an almost too thin connection to the rest of the tail. Finally the ‘feet’ grew, before splitting into two sections each, forming eye-shaped fins at the end of her tail.

It was at this point, almost as if it was waiting, which was likely for the Ditto, that the cream scales had spread across most of Misty’s new body and had reached the start of her ‘tail’. As opposed to cream, patterns began to form across the tail with thick outlines up until her fins, where an ovular pattern marked itself on each one.

Then as if someone had started coloring in the lines in a coloring book, color other than pink spread across the patterned tail. The outlines had become black, while the pattern itself was mainly blue with a few reddish-pinks thrown in, including inside the ovals on her tail. The new blues and reds shined, not with slime but with the clean sleekness of wondrous, colorful scales.

All that was left was a small glob of goop at the end of the creature’s tail. Both eyes watched as the glob grew, and Ash recognized a face on the glob, that of Ditto hanging from Misty’s tail. The pink shapeshifter Pokemon hung from the tail with the same wide smile it always had, before detaching and landing on the sand, reshaping itself as the spot it was hanging from righted itself and quickly shifted its scales into place.

The newly formed Milotic relaxed her body, giving a majestic cry before looking towards Ash, its big red eyes sparkling. For his part he was almost stunned to silence. Almost. He quickly got up and ran to the sea serpent, feeling its soft body. “Misty! Is this still you?”

The Milotic gave a musical chirp, as if it were her way of saying yes. “You can’t talk?” He asked, and the Pokemon shook its head no. Ash thought for a moment before shrugging it off. “Wow, Misty! This is amazing! You really became a Pokemon!” the boy exclaimed in delight, feeling Misty’s slender body and her rose-colored eyebrows, moving around her to take it all in. This might have been the first time he saw a Milotic, but he could only imagine that this was exactly how one would look like, as far as he knew.

“This is so cool, Misty! Can you do Pokemon moves like this?!” She nodded in response, looking quite prideful. The Milotic soaked up all of Ash’s attention and praise eagerly as the boy continued gawking and poking at her. Her creamy scales tinted around the cheeks as he pet and rubbed her. “A Ditto that can turn people into Pokemon... that’s so awesome! Where’d you even find something so cool?”

The Milotic gave a call, making Ash pause. “Huh? What is it Misty?” The majestic serpent looked to him, before turning her attention to Ditto, who still stood-- well, pooled, on the sand nearby.

Misty lowered her head down to be more level with Ditto. The two Pokemon conversed like any normal Pokemon would; in other words Ash had no idea what the two were talking about. It seemed important, though, as they continued speaking. Finally they seemed to have reached a conclusion, Misty-lotic raising her head and giving a nod down to Ditto, who in return gave a jiggly salute.

Ash felt a bit locked out of the loop at the moment, but then both Pokemon turned their attention back to him.

He couldn’t help but get a sense of foreboding that something would happen, as he took a step back. Misty-lotic gave a short cry, a command, before Ditto began to move.

Just like what he had seen it do before, its body stretched and melted as it expanded, form wobbling and oozing upon itself. He realized quickly what they were planning but before he could really come up with any sort of response the transforming Pokemon pounced on him.

The first thing Ash noticed was the cold, goopy texture, like getting hugged by jello. Ditto wrapped around his arms, which he had instinctively outstretched to stop the Pokemon’s pounce. The pink Pokemon quickly climbed up his limbs and squashed against his torso. “Hey! What are you doing!?” he exclaimed, getting one last look at the Milotic who eagerly watched before his vision was consumed in pure pink.

The slime spread around his head, swallowing everything within, wrapping around his slowly waving arms, crawling over to cling to his back, oozing down to his legs, consuming everything within the Ditto’s mass in pink.

It was a strange, unnatural feeling, like putting on some kind of costume yet at the same time getting some kind of full body massage. Not entirely unpleasant but not particularly pleasant too. Ash could still breathe and feel sensations but it was all through this pink goopy filter, and he couldn’t see what was happening himself.

Yet Misty got to see his change. It was an interesting opportunity, since this would be the first time she saw it happen to someone else. Where Ash once was was now a pink blob in the shape of him, Ditto’s face stretched across the mass as the blob shifted and wobbled.

The blob’s head shuddered first as it was the first target of change. Misty always wanted Ditto to start with the head first, so she, and in this case Ash, could see the rest of the changes happen, and also to let the person changing breathe freely instead of trying to breathe through thick goo.

In this case much like Misty’s own alteration, Ash’s neck stretched upwards, extending to multiples of its normal length. However, in contrast, unlike Misty the neck seemed to get a bit thinner as it went upwards, overall making the stretched form notably more slender than the Milotic’s.

In more contrast to Misty, something began to grow along the length as well. A bit below Ash’s chin an orb-like growth formed from the goo, solidifying into a glassy gem-like form that turned a crystal blue. The boy seemed to feel this new addition as he felt his transforming neck, dipping his head to feel at the orb that stuck out from his pink goopy body.

His head began reshaping, face pushing outward and nose flattening into the growing mound, a rounder snout forming over the lower half of his face, as opposed to the Milotic’s smoother, sleeker, pointed own. The top of his head rounded up completely, leaving no trace of the boy’s distinguishing hairdo before a bump formed on his forehead. The bump pushed outwards, extending into a point, before the goo hardened and solidified into his new cone-shaped horn as the pink turned into a solid white.

The lumps that may have been his ears flattened, before two growths pushed outwards to take their place. Long, flat appendages that spread out into separate tufts with a curl at the base. Once they had finished growing they changed in color and texture, turning a soft white and becoming feathers, forming small wings of a sort that seemed more for style than actual flight.

Inside, Ash was aware of the goo that covered his eyes. He shut them tight to avoid getting Ditto in them, but found that once he reopened them he could see clearly without any sort of pink goop in front of him, his eyes meeting the Milotic’s before him. On the outside, Misty saw the outline of his eyes forming amidst the smoothing goop, eyelids solidifying into a sky blue that began spreading over the rest of his face before his eyes opened, revealing glossy dark violet eyes with no visible whites in them.

Ash attempted to speak, but a voice— no— a cry unlike what he was used to came out if his mouth underneath his snout. He looked down at his pink, still human body, noting how high up his head was over it, to the point where if he creened hard enough he could see his neck as the blue scales finished covering his head and began moving downward.

The scales travelled downward, smooth and the same light blue as his head until they reached the orb on his neck, at which point the scales that grew directly underneath it turned white instead.

Ash couldn’t pay too much attention to this change, however. A beastly shout of shock left his new mouth as his legs gave out underneath him. Both Misty and Ash looked down to the boy’s feet as they began transforming, as if the change—rather, Ditto— decided to tackle both ends of him at once.

His feet began growing outwards, although perhaps more importantly they also seemed to be clinging together. It was the most alien feeling of all this that Ash had felt yet as he found that he couldn’t feel his toes, and then couldn’t even feel his feet as separate appendages as they began one long, thinning and extending limb. They finally stopped growing, yet that wasn’t the end of the matter. Instead something began to push out around them near the tip. Two somethings, actually, as much like the orb on his neck, 2 more of them grew around his tail a bit under the end. They even turned the same blue crystal color and material.

After Ditto seemed done with the tail, the tip of which began to solidify and gain its own blue scale coating, it focused along Ash’s legs. Underneath the cold goo they felt like jelly, as bone and mass softened to be combined and molded. He found more of his legs starting from his feet starting to forcibly push and stick together as if they were magnetized to each other, and as they did so the seam between them seemed to disappear, the goo surrounding the legs pushing outwards to make a more rounder, cylinder shape, growing and extending out slightly to add to his tail.

This continued up his legs, merging everything below his knees, then the joints themselves, then travelling higher up until it reached his pelvis and there was no more ‘leg’ to stand on, his entire lower body now one long, smooth appendage. Perhaps if the change had finished there and he still had his normal head, Ash would look like a Merman, much like how Misty had dressed once. Except perhaps more serpentine than fishy.

The scales continued travelling up his new tail. Much like his neck, the ‘back’ and sides were entirely blue, while underneath the orbs a streak of white scales grew. The scales continued growing in their uniform pattern until a fairly large portion of Ash’s body was now fully converted and covered in blue instead of squishy pink.

That left only his torso unchanged. They both watched in rapt attention, Ash could feel his belly shifting, churning, while Misty could see it for herself as it rounded into a more smooth cylindrical shape much like her own, yet noticeably smaller.  His pink arms felt his shifting belly, before Ash suddenly found that he couldn’t lift his hands off of it.

Certainly concerned, especially as fingers felt fuzzy and that fuzzy feeling was spreading up his hand, he stared down as the gooey digits stuck to and melted into the goo of his belly. Like quicksand, more of his fingers sank into the pink layers, until his fingers were entirely gone. He couldn’t lift his arms off of his body as more and more of them begun to sink inwards.

Soon his wrists were swallowed up to his sides and he could only flail his propped elbows before they had sunken and merged to his streamlined body. The remaining upper parts of his arms were now pinned to his sides, where the separation between them and his body quickly began disappearing.

Finally his arms, even his shoulders, sank into his torso, leaving no trace of them at all on his body. It was already clear that he had been becoming a serpent Pokemon like Misty had, but this just finalized it, especially as his chest began to round out and become more forming to both his tail and his neck, leaving a smooth, sleek body completely.

He wasn’t as thick or as lengthy as Misty was, he noted, as the rest of his scales set in across his midsection. Misty had a good several feet on him in terms of overall height. This was all surreal to him, as he looked down at his completely altered body, over a round blue snout no less.

The scales had finished growing in, with a white belly that went from his neck to his tail and blue everywhere else. He felt something wet on his back and he turned his head to see Ditto forming out of the remaining goop. The small pink Pokemon was done, and quickly slid off of Ash to leave the new Pokemon take it all in.

Dragonair. That was what he had become. He knew this because that was what left his mouth despite what he meant to say was “I’m a Pokemon!”.

Misty seemed to understand, and responded. “That’s right, Ash! Way to say the obvious!” He could feel the smugness in her rather elegant voice that totally didn’t match his image of Misty.

“Wow... this is so weird!” He slithered around himself, taking in his new body. He felt faster, more agile, even ignoring his complete lack of limbs. It was weird that he could even still move around like this considering there was nothing really about him that remained the same.

The Milotic slithered over, her form quite impressive to the new dragon-type. He looked to her and noted the glee in her own eyes. “I’m glad you like it.”

“She was waiting to do this for so long~ Rehearsing day in and day out~” An unfamiliar yet familiar voice commented. The Dragonair turned to the Ditto, jiggling and giggling to itself while the Milotic’s face tinted red.

Misty huffed. “I was just worried about how you would react!” she exclaimed in defense, getting Ash’s attention once more.

“Right... so, this is cool and all,” Ash grinned as he looked down at himself, waving his thin tail around, “and it’s great that you let me do it too, but why turn me into a Dragonair?”

“What do you mean?” Misty tilted her head. Did he not like it?

“I mean, it’s kind of random! I get why you’re a Milotic, but you obviously chose these Pokemon, right?” He looked to Ditto for confirmation, who nodded.

“Well... I just thought it’d match...” Misty admitted, looking away slightly. “You know, me being a Milotic, you being a Dragonair...”

“I don’t really get it.”

“Ugh, hopeless.” She let herself sigh, before looking to Ash with a huff. “Ditto wasn’t the only surprise! The truth is... I wanted to spend some time with you like this.” She motioned to the shore with her tail. “I thought we could go explore the sea... as Pokemon. THAT was the surprise!”

Realization dawned on Ash, and he couldn’t help but grin wide at the prospect. “Really? Well why didn’t you say so! That sounds great!”

“Yeah, just you and me in the depths...”

“And me!~” Ditto exclaimed in delight as it wormed its way between the two serpents. Misty tried not to grumble while Ash laughed.

“Yeah, what are we waiting for?! Let’s go, Misty!” the Dragonair urged his companion on. Misty rolled her eyes. As immature as always.

But she was happy too, and probably just as excited as he was. The Milotic slithered across the soft sand and into the cold water. It was most likely just the body she was in, but the sea felt more inviting than ever the moment it touched her cream-colored scales.

She looked behind to see Ash following, and behind him she saw Ditto in the process of shapeshifting itself to join them. She slithered across the water until she finally reached a deep enough level to dive her full body in.

The water welcomed her. It felt more natural underneath the surface than ever. The movement in the water behind her made her look back to see Ash diving in as well, no doubt feeling the same as her.

The two Pokemon swam further out from shore, as the sea opened up around and beneath them. They could stay like this for as long as they’d like. Good, because Misty couldn’t even begin to think of when she would want this to end.

Ash called to Misty, eagerly motioning down into the dark seas below. He swam downwards and she followed. They swam around the sea water, looking across the ocean floors, at all the sights and Pokemon down below. They both enjoyed themselves, swimming with and around each other as a Dewgong catched up to them.

All in all, they were all glad that Misty had found Ditto and set this up. For Ash and Misty, this would be a memorable summer’s day.
